The cable fairings help accomplish a clean, wrinkle-free tape application when you attach cable to the trailing edge of the mast. The fairings have a channel the cable nests within and they also provide a sharp trailing edge for the water to join converge at, resulting in less drag.
THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT TYPES YOU NEED TO BUY TO ROUTE YOUR CABLE CLEANLY FROM THE MOTOR TO THE BASE UNIT: THE MOTOR SEGMENT (pick V1 (fixed length cable) or V2/HP (adjustible cable length), AND THE REMAINING SPACERS, WHATEVER COMBINATION OF TYPE AND QUANTITY YOU NEED TO RUN DOWN THE MAST. YOU NEED TO MEASURE AND DETERMINE HOW MANY OF EACH YOU’LL NEED. EXAMPLE: 15 CM CABLE GENERALLY REQUIRES A MOTOR GUIDE, 3-4 1-INCH GUIDES, AND MAYBE A 1/2-INCH GUIDE FOR THE FINAL APPROACH TO THE MAST BASE.
These cable fairings were developed a year before the Zip Pod and improve the aesthetics and hydrodynamics of the cable routing between the motor and the base unit.
***They are not required to be used with the zip pod mount, nor does the zip pod mount require you to use them***. They complement each other in order to minimize hydrodynamic drag. It was claimed by one customer that in the e-foil position, his son was able to get an 10% additional runtime on the same battery, all other variables the same.
They are included with the Zip Pod kit, but are available for purchase separate in case you would prefer a cleaner routing with the factory motor mount.
If you are experimenting with using the zip pod in the E foil position (not a guaranteed good fit) and you need additional cable fairings to route the cable, add the correct quantity of 1-inch fairings that you need.
Motor: These are 2.5 inches long, and set the start point for routing the cable down to the base unit.
1-inch: These are 1.0 inches long and work anywhere along the length of the mast. These are the ones you would buy enough quantity to get from the motor fairing down to the mast base.
1/2-inch: These are 0.5 inches long and are used to fine tune the exact final length near the base unit. Sometimes the mast flares out very wide like Code, Armstrong, and Axis UHM, and it is hard to flex the last 1-inch one into place near the base.
